Shah Rukh Khan starrer Kal Ho Naa Ho continues to be a timeless classic. The film released in 2003 was directed by Nikkhil Advani and produced by Karan Johar. Alongside King Khan, it starred Preity Zinta and Saif Ali Khan in pivotal roles. However, do you know Shah Rukh was about to quit the leave and recommended Salman Khan as his replacement for this reason.

In conversation with Mirchi Plus, the director recalled the incident and said, “He called us after doing one scene and said yaar mere se nahi hoga aap log kya ek kaam karo. You know main Salman ko phone karta hu, Salman ke saath bana do.” (I can’t do this now; you do one thing: I will call Salman, and you can make the film (Kal Ho Naa Ho) with Salman.)”

Actually, Shah Rukh Khan was suffering from back issue and had to immediately leave for Germany and undergo surgery. Consequently, he needed a 6 month recovery period after it. So, he didn’t want makers to wait. However, Nikkhil Advani and producer Karan Johar only wanted him to play Aman, so they waited for him to recover before starting filming after six months.

For those unversed, Kal Ho Naa Ho recently re-released in theatres and it garnered amazing response. The film also starred popular faces like Jaya Bachchan, Delnaaz Irani, Lilette Dubey among others in pivotal roles.

On the work front, Nikkhil Advani recently directed Freedom at Midnight which released on Sony LIV with freedom struggle as backdrop. He also directed Vedaa which starred John Abraham and Sharvari Wagh as leads.
